YUMBS

Born Ayanda Oratile Yumba in Kagiso in 2002, multi-talented producer/ DJ Yumbs’ love for music runs deep. His musical gift would then be nurtured when he attended the National School of Art. At the tender age of 16, the multi-instrumentalist became the official drummer for rapper Priddy Ugly. In his senior year (2020), Yumbs was the main composer and musical director for the production Hip-Hop Helmet, which premiered at the Nelson Mandela Theatre. Having harnessed his talent and knowledge about music, Yumbs made his first foray into the mainstream of the South African music fraternity through his contribution to Musa Keys’ “Vula Mlomo”. He then went on to work on Cassper Nyovest’s “Ama Number Ayi '10”, Slade’s “Wamuhle”, Babalwa M’s “Makwande”, and Kelvin Momo’s multi-platinum-selling album Ivy League. In addition to being part of a music camp with the likes of Will.I.Am and Pharell Williams in 2022, Yumbs collaborated with Riky Rick, Major League, Blxckie, Ami Faku, Msaki, and Venom & Shishiliza on their multi-platinum selling single “Sondela”, as well as taking the role of being the executive producer to Pabi Cooper’s debut EP, Cooperville. That same year, Yumbs released his own debut EP, The First Offering which included the tracks “Amanga” and “Intliziyo”. As if that was not enough, towards the tail end of 2022, he collaborated with Soul Nativez for a collaborative, Pan-African project. In the joint EP, aptly titled “Amapiano, East Meets South” Yumbs enlists the likes of Sauti Sol, Oxlade, Marioo, Jux and Nviiri The Storyteller, amongst others. The super producer kickstarted his 2023 with the nostalgia-inducing “Piki Piki” before teaming up with Pabi Cooper, MaWhoo and Nkosazana Daughter on the smash hit, “Dali Wam”. Along with his incredible studio contributions, Yumbs is also an internationally sought after DJ that has graced the biggest stages in Germany, Netherlands (Pianoland), Portugal (Afronation), and France (Cannes Film Festival). Renowned for his electrifying sets, Yumbs recently made waves for crafting and curating the music at Maxhosa’s sustainability fashion festival.
