ZISKAKAN
Ziskakan, iconic group of Reunion Island, is much more than a musical act. Since its creation in 1979, the Ziskakan association has fought with music and the verb for the defense of Reunion's Creole culture, and for the recognition of traditional Maloya music. Today, the legendary band, led by its charismatic leader Gilbert POUNIA, is on the move more than ever, continuing its journey with the same values and the same passion. The group continues to bring its unique blend of African, Asian and European sounds to the four corners of the globe to the rhythm of Maloya, promoting “Creolité” and passing on this cultural heritage. On the eve of the group's 45th anniversary, Gilbert POUNIA and his band of young musicians from Reunion Island offer an original musical journey woven from old tracks revisited and new ones that will undoubtedly fuel the Ziskakan legend.
ZISKAKAN, A CREOLE REVOLUTION
“Ziskakan, une révolution créole” first documentary directed by Sébastien Folin, based on an original idea by Maya Kamaty, and a favorite of the Académie Charles Cros 2023, tells the story of the peaceful struggle for identity waged by the members of the Reunion-based group Ziskakan over the past four decades to promote and transmit their island's Creole culture. We had the privilege of screening the documentary on June 6, 2023 at the French National Assembly, in the company of our local elected representatives and members of parliament. It is with great pleasure that we share with you access to 52 minutes of intense emotion.
